CLC will be running five workshops for a total of ten hours, focusing upon improving the writing skills of Year 6 students preparing for Selective High School or Scholarship exams in 2019. Students will be introduced to effective writing strategies including planning techniques to organise ideas, vocabulary expansion, sentence and paragraphing structuring, grammar and punctuation, purpose and structure of varying genres, practical writing tasks and editing.
Comments from past students include:
The most helpful part of the program was `When I wrote my stories and Pam wrote helpful and instructive feedback on how to make our writing better’.
`I feel a lot more prepared and confident for the test …’
`I learnt about what grabs a reader’s attention and a variety of ways to help me plan.’
`Everything helped me with my confidence – I loved it!’
Comments from parents include:
`Benefits are long-term, not only for SHS but with all future Written Expression tasks which will be required on-going when they get to High School.’
`H’s main comment was that I have never been taught to write and now I know.’
`Our son’s written expression work appears to have improved quite a bit this week but most importantly, he doesn’t appear to be as daunted at the prospect of having to do such a task.’
Please note: This is a popular course and numbers are limited.
When the morning workshop has reached its limit, an afternoon time from 1p.m. to 3p.m. will be available.
