Individually Designed Programs
A detailed assessment report is used by a teacher to design an individual program to develop and improve your child’s areas of need. Our teachers are qualified, dedicated and experienced. Assistance is provided for your child in whatever areas are required in reading, comprehension, phonological awareness, word attack skills, written expression, spelling, mathematics, study/organisational skills, building confidence and self-esteem. Many children with literacy or maths problems have poor perceptual development with auditory short term memory, visual span, visual sequential memory, fine motor skills or bilateral co-ordination.
We believe the key to success lies in recognising your child’s needs and having time to relate to your child’s personal requirements. Lessons can be face-to-face or online using Zoom. There are never more than two pupils to one teacher and each student has their own program. One-to-one teaching is given where necessary. Most pupils have weekly lessons but a more regular and intensive program can be arranged.
Your child will progress faster if he or she has brief, but frequent practice sessions at home to reinforce lessons. Children differ in their ability to cope with homework. We provide as much material as necessary that can be happily managed without overloading the student.
It is part of our service to provide a comprehensive, typed progress report after approximately 20 lessons or 2 terms. We believe students, particularly those experiencing difficulties, need that amount of time to progress in weaker areas. The report outlines what topics have been covered, the level of mastery reached and gives recommendations for future work.
